Community Outreach is the process by which the PPS and the people of Northern Ireland will interact and the way in which the PPS will engage at a local level with the community and relevant statutory and non-statutory agencies.
The aim of this Community Outreach Strategy is to:
"Increase public confidence in the independence, fairness and effectiveness of the new Public Prosecution Service for Northern Ireland."
The objectives of the Public Prosecution Service's Community Outreach Strategy are to:
Increase the community's understanding of the role of the PPS as part of the overall criminal justice system and to help inform the community generally about criminal justice processes;
Provide information about the working of the PPS, for example, what criteria are used to make decisions; and
Assist with developing the community's understanding of diversionary schemes as an alternative to prosecution.
